Environmental and Recycling Awareness

 

At The Phoenix Retreat, we aim to heat all the hot water with solar power, an energy saving programme worthy of a wholistic retreat of the 21st century and recycle grey water for the gardens.

 

To prove this commitment we currently recycle all paper, glass, metal, card, paper and plastic, and compost all vegetable waste. We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, and encourage guests to bear in mind the ecological costs of supplying fresh towels every day if staying longer than one day and being aware of water wastage.

 

The centre is totally vegetarian and caters for vegan's, is totally non-smoking and  alcohol free. We would also ask that no-one  brings meat, fish, any cooked foods or alcohol onto the premises.

 

All our dry food products are organic and we aim to supply at least 80% of our fruit and vegetables from organic suppliers. We are in the process of sourcing all our room toiletries from animal friendly suppliers too. If you wish to have only organic or/and living foods, please inform us ahead and we will definitely provide accordingly.

 

All the TV and DVD combi sets are placed on the walls just below the ceiling to reduce emissions effect.

 

All our rooms are painted with natural organic paints and earth pigments.  The natural oak flooring in all the bedrooms is painted with water based natural varnish.  All the mattress coverings and pillow coverings are cotton and hypoallergenic.

 

Most of our bedlinen is cotton as we continue to wear out polyester and cotton mixes.  However, if you need cotton only bed-linen, please inform us at the time of booking and it will be provided with pleasure.

 

Our water is filtered so as to be chemical free.  It is also magnetised and so is also very soft.  Use very little soap to get the best results.  No chemicals or pesticides are used in the house or in the gardens.

 

All the public areas in the house (except the dining area in the conservatory) have EMI safety net curtains – which reduce the emissions from all types of masts by 99.7%.  

 

All the lamps have been earthed and the whole house has checked for earthing and been earth looped. All large electrical appliances for washing and drying are housed outside the property.  The motor for the jacuzzi in the cabin has been housed in a separate part of the cabin to provide for people who are electro-sensitive.  All public areas have normal incandescent bulbs.  All lamps in the bedrooms are earthed but have energy saving bulbs.  Each room has a set of incandescent bulbs.

All bedrooms have ionisers / air purifiers, which can be left on after you leave so as to purify the area if you are allergic.  We can also provide ionisers with lamps which have no EMI emissions – guaranteed. We also provide wind-up lamps, if you do not wish to use bedside lamps at all.
